Customized Farrier (Follow-up) 2021 Class Dates

Class Information

  • Classes meet 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Tuition for the 6-week course is $4,950. Tuition for the 12-week course is $8,900.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required for admission. A strong background with horses is helpful.
  • Potential students will send an application along with a non-refundable $250 fee which, upon acceptance, applies toward the course tuition. The book Essential Principles of Horseshoeing by Doug, Jacob, and Pete Butler will be shipped upon receipt of the application and fee.
  • In preparation for coming to the school, students begin their studies by working on the online section of the course. Students pay the first tuition payment of $950 which covers this online portion that adds up to the total amount of the course. The tuition remainder$3,750 is due on the first day of class. Students will receive their own copy of The Principles of Horseshoeing (P3) on the first day of class.
  • Lodging is separate (see on- and off-campus housing section).
  • There will be no late admission after each class begins.


Grading

A 75% average on tests and assigned projects will be required for graduation. Comprehensive competency tests with certificates will be given at the end of each course.


Policies

Character and presentation are essential to success. No alcohol, tobacco or other drug use will be permitted on campus. Persons coming on campus under the influence of alcohol will not be allowed to participate. Verbal or physical abuse of other students or animals will not be tolerated. Violations will be grounds for expulsion without refund. Three unexcused absences will be grounds for dismissal without refund.


Placement Assistance

The school will encourage placement with a qualified farrier but cannot guarantee placement assistance upon completion of the program.


Tools

A list of necessary tools can be provided for those interested in bringing their own tools. Otherwise tools can be rented or purchased. Please contact us for details.
